AK Sets the Screen on Fire - Good Bad Ugly Movie Review and Latest Updates

How are the ‘THALA’ fans faring after back to back films of him hitting the theatres after his long hiatus from the Ktown. Good Bad Ugly, Our favorite Ajith Kumar‘s latest major film is in theaters from today. Looking for reviews? You’ve got us! One thing is for certain: no matter if you love it, hate it, or are somewhere in the middle, you won’t stop talking about it. Good Bad Ugly, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, starring alongside the ensemble cast includes Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Das, and Prabhu, opened in theaters with some hype on April 10. Fans of the star, while waiting for the film, weren’t unique to the cinema as Twitter was alight with conversation and analysis ready to dissect all of the frames to see if “Thala” delivered on the hype. Though that’s not really a question as he can never go wrong. Let’s get into the good, bad and yes, ugly but with swag.

The Good: The Style and Swag of ‘Thala’

Let’s start with the obvious fact – Ajith Kumar is the heart of this movie. From the moment you see him tattooed, a new haircut, and surrounded by guns on fire, you remember why he is one of the biggest stars in Tamil cinema today. His role as a morally complex mafia don is charismatic enough to keep fans on their feet cheering through the excessive action sequences and gritty dialogues. This movie revels in Ajith’s innate magnetism with stylized slow-motion shots, nostalgia-infused throwback references to stare-downs or confrontations in his previous pictures, or even choreographed moments geared toward pulling more applause. In fact, many fans have already taken to social media to claim it was “his most entertaining performance in fourteen years”. Whether it be because of his bearded rugged appearance, immaculate delivery, and exactly the presence to steal your attention, Ajith will capture it.

The Bad: Storytelling in the Backseat

Here’s where the film misses the mark. Good Bad Ugly is bursting with visual flair, however, the storyline is where it starts to stumble. Critics have pointed out that the plot lacks depth. There are certainly promising sub plots throughout the film, but it never quite delivers that strong emotional core to get where it needed to go, and the narrative is fairly underwhelming too. The script is attempting to juggle mafia politics, moral dilemmas, romance, with an abundance of callbacks to Thala’s great moments, as it tried its hand at all of those different aspects, it left open a lot of questions and arcs to feel undercooked.

One X (formerly Twitter) user nicely said: “It’s Ajith’s world, we are just watching—but we need a story to follow too“.

The Ugly (Quite the Opposite though): Style and Substance!

Let’s be clear—there is nothing visually “ugly” about Good Bad Ugly. In fact, its cinematography, production design, and soundtrack are all massive visual treats. But if you’re someone who prefers a tight, well told story over larger-than-life visuals, this one might not land with you. But again, the director, Adhik Ravichandran, was open in saying this film was constructed as a celebration of Ajith’s career. There are a lot of callbacks and stylistic echoes that longtime fans will be sure to love even if the others feel a bit lost.

Box Office Buzz

The estimated budget of the movie stands between 270 – 300 Crore including production and post production. Regardless of the mixed opinions, the movie Good Bad Ugly is performing remarkably at the box office. Rumor has it that Thala fans are so geared up with the movie that they’ll rewatch the masterpiece again in the theatres (We’re ready for round too as well)  With potential premiere at an international film festival and many speculating a sequel, Ajith fans have much to look forward to. The first day collection stands at almost 17 crores across India as of today.

Is the film worth a theatre watch? YES obviously! Don’t miss the vibe and enjoy the film on the big screen.
