IPL fans geared up much? Lately it feels like, If you blinked, you may have missed another thrilling chapter in the IPL 2025 saga. Every match seems like a powerplay this time. We all know that when you tuned in for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) vs Delhi Capitals (DC), you were expecting fireworks. Instead, what we got was KL Rahul showing off, reminding us all why cricket is still a gentleman’s game with his masterclass rockstar edge. And if you are an RCB fan…well, I am sure you have either yelled into your pillow or rage-texted your group chat. But don’t worry, the match is far from over. Let’s take a look at yesterday’s match. Scroll down.
RCB entered wanting to make a statement and for a time it appeared as if they might be able to do it. Virat Kohli as always carried expectation and made a competent 45 off 32 balls. Along with Rajat Patidar, who struck 38 off 22, RCB looked to be constructing something quite significant. But just as they needed an injection of pace into the innings in the death overs… the game slipped away. All credit to the Delhi bowlers. They showed remarkable control, and even when Kuldeep Yadav (2/17) spun tight recyclerings when other spinners would have gone for runs, Vipraj Nigam (2/18) was like a seasoned specialist exerting pressure in death overs. RCB put on just 36 runs in the last five overs, an extraordinarily inefficient period that would cost them massiveantly when they finished on 163/7 in 20 overs.
That is the point in the match that made things intriguing.KL Rahul, whose form had been questioned, appeared to bat with both purpose and calmness. What ensued was a match-winning 93 off only 53 balls, with impeccable timing and placement. This was not merely a solid innings; this was a demonstration of Rahul’s ability and his ability to lead. Delhi lost a couple of early wickets (including Warner and Pant), but Rahul stood his ground, steadied the ship and then injected aggression at exactly the right time. His 78-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs (38 off 28)* sealed the victory. DC chased down the running total in only 17.5 overs, making an easy look less difficult than it surely was.
Consider the facts: RCB is languishing on the lower half of the points table with only two wins out of eight matches. Fans are citing lack of firepower to finish, inconsistent bowling, and overreliance on Virat. In the meantime, DC fans are euphoric. The team has won four games in a row, and it is coming together very quickly. There are already rumblings on social media about how this team with Pant at the helm and Rahul powering the squad could become one of this season’s dark horses.
RCB’s bowling attack did not manage to keep its composure. Other than Yash Dayal and Swapnil Singh, who both took a wicket, the attack was impotent in the face of Rahul’s patient assault. The larger concern? No wickets when it was needed most. No yorkers in the death overs. And no opportunities of building pressure in the spell following the powerplay. They allowed a game they could have fought for to slip away without struggle, which has become a trend this season.
Royal Challengers Bangalore: 163/7 (20 Over)
Delhi Capitals: 167/4 (17.5 Overs)
Verdict: DC Won by 6 Wickets. (RCB fans brace up)
