Tesla to sell cars in India? Prices and Showroom locations Out!

And the most awaited wait ends now. Tesla is launching its products in India. The giant in the EVs have now set foot in the Indian market. The launch planned priorly in 2022 was put on hold, but in 2025 the launch is set for April month. Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi met with Elon Musk last week in the United States to further discuss on the matters of mobility, market conditions and technology aspects. With India’s growing push for sustainable mobility, Tesla’s arrival could be a game-changer. India’s EV Policy and Market -

The Tesla launch in India is right in time to the tweak of the EV policy changes made to the import duties levied. The import duty charged on the EV vehicles that cost around $40,000 were 100% and for the ones below $40,000 were 70%.

And the changes made to the policy brings the import duties down by 30%. That is, for EV vehicles that cost around $40,000 has now been reduced to 70% and for the ones below $40,000 remains at 70%.

Models Launched and its Prices -

There are six models expected to launch in India and the prices mentioned here are the expected estimations which may vary figuratively. And although the launch is expected in April, particular models are being launched in the upcoming months post the initial launch.

Tesla Model X:

Model X is set to be launched later in the month of December and the price can be expected to be around Rs. 2 Crores

Tesla Model Y:

The price is estimated to be around Rs. 50 Lakhs. And the launch of the product can be expected towards March this year. And its range? 597 km/charge.

Tesla Model 2:

A launch to perk up in the Indian market the Tesla Model 2 is the most economical of the products with its price average residing within Rs.19.90 Lakhs- Rs.21 Lakhs and this product will enter the market around July.

Tesla Model 3:

This model is geared up to parade the showrooms by December with its range 402 km/charge and its price around Rs. 60 – 70 Lakhs.

Tesla Model S:

The coziest and luxurious EV of the Tesla products is Model S. Ranging around 646 km/charge its price would be between Rs. 1 Crore to 1.5Crores.

Tesla Cybertruck:

Again another launch geared up in the December month this year with its price ranging on Rs. 70 Lakhs.

Possible Showrooms -

Tesla is said to be looking for showrooms in the northern parts, New Delhi and Mumbai specifically with a hawk eye. The showrooms are to be situated in the high traffic areas to garner the attention. It is said that the Aerocity of Delhi could be a possible location for the installation of the showroom. Aerocity is the home for various hotels, retails, global corporations and much more prominent business and regular activities. Hence, the place would be a prime spot to launch the showroom. Also Tesla had stated that the company itself would handle its showrooms and not through service centres.

Another major location the Tesla eyes for is the heart of India’s business: Mumbai. The car makers have chosen the prime spot, Bandra and have acquired the space in its retail hub Kurla Complex which is just next to the airport. Both the locations have acquired prime spots in the prime cities of the country. And each of the showrooms are expected to be around 5,000 square feet (464.52 square metres) in size.

Jobs for Indians

Tesla has to offer numerous job offers to Indians post its launch in the country. And the hiring process is ongoing now. As mentioned before, since Tesla took it in its hands to get through with the activities and management of its showrooms, right to the statement almost all the jobs are posted to be working in the showrooms. And the major areas the jobs posted are, Mumbai metropolitan area and Delhi. The major job offers include the positions of Operations specialist, Adviser roles for Sales, parts, service and other brand departments. Also there are roles open for technicians, store managers, supervisors and analysts. Even though there’s a variety of opportunities posted it is notable that only experienced people are welcome.
