Chennai International Air Show 2024: Soaring High on October 6

 

Chennai is gearing up for an unforgettable spectacle as it hosts the Chennai International Air Show 2024 on October 6, commemorating the 92nd anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF). For the first time, the vibrant city will witness an incredible aerial display featuring some of the most advanced fighter jets in the world, including the Rafale, Sukhoi, and Mikoyan.

 

A Historic Occasion

Air Commodore Rathish Kumar, the commanding officer of the Tambaram Air Force Station, shared the significance of this event in an exclusive interview with India Today. “Until 2021, this celebration was traditionally held in Delhi, shifting to Chandigarh in 2022 and Prayagraj in 2023. We are thrilled to host this prestigious event in Chennai and Tambaram this year,” he remarked.

The air show will take place over the picturesque Marina Beach from 11 AM to 1:30 PM, with an estimated 1.5 million spectators expected to witness the grand flypast. The atmosphere is sure to be electric as families and aviation enthusiasts gather to watch these magnificent aircraft soar through the sky.

 

                                           

 

Spectacular Lineup

The theme for this year’s event is “Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant,” reflecting the strength and capabilities of the Indian Air Force. Attendees will be treated to an impressive lineup of aircraft, including:

• Fighter Jets: Sukhoi-30 MKI, Rafale, Mirage 2000, MiG-29, and the indigenous Tejas.
• Transport Fleets: Various military transport aircraft will also be showcased.
• Helicopters: The event will feature helicopters such as the Mi-17 and the Prachand Light Combat Helicopter (LCH).
• Heritage Aircraft: Classic aircraft like the Dakota and Harvard will add a touch of history to the proceedings.

Following the aerial display, a parade at the Tambaram Air Force Station will take place on October 8, further celebrating the contributions and achievements of the IAF.
