India is driving full speed into a smarter period of trace trip! In a bold new move to enhance convenience for commuters, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, led by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, has blazoned the launch of a FASTag Annual Pass System, starting August 15, 2025.
This new system lets private vehicle possessors pay a one-time figure and enjoy unlimited trips across public roadways and state roadways — a major step toward hassle-free, tech-enabled road peregrinations.
But what’s indeed more intriguing is the technology and the before-the-scenes medium making this work. Let’s take a near look.
The FASTag Annual Pass is a digital trip pass designed for non-commercial vehicles similar to buses, jeeps, and vans. With a single periodic payment, you can
Still, diurnal work commutes, or long weekend road passages this is a game-changing option If you’re someone who drives frequently — whether it’s megacity- to- megacity.
Don’t worry — occasional trippers haven’t been left out. You can continue to use the traditional “Pay-as-you-go” FASTag option at a rate of ₹ 50 per 100 km.
The new Annual Pass system is backed by advanced RFID(Radio-frequency Identification) technology, which has been the backbone of the FASTag system.
Then’s how the tech works in the streamlined system.
Intelligent risk software counts each trace entry/ exit using vehicle label reviews. The system monitors the number of passages made and disables the pass after reaching the 200-trip limit or 1-time expiry, whichever is before.
Toll cells are equipped with geo-fencing technology to track entry/ exit patterns, help abuse, and ensure vehicles cleave to distance and time regulations.
Before activation, the system cross-checks your vehicle enrollment number through a central Vahan database to confirm it falls under private/non-commercial use. Only after successful confirmation will the periodic pass be actuated.
All trip data, pass operation, and system cautions are covered via a pall-grounded dashboard managed by NHAI. This ensures translucency, real-time shadowing, and minimum error.
You’ll need to use either.

The Annual Pass aims to exclude these issues entirely — particularly for private druggies who swap constantly. It’s all about making trips simpler, brisk, and stress-free.
What Nitin Gadkari Said
