Marvel Studios has had no shortage of projects to excite fans, and their next movie, Thunderbolts, is one of them. The movie has created significant buzz ever since it was announced, and with a release window confirmed by Disney+, fans are itching to find out what this movie adds to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The Thunderbolts is not your typical Marvel superhero team like the Avengers; it has more of a dark twist to it than all the other different groups in the MCU. The Thunderbolts is an anti-hero group, consisting of reformed villains and morally ambiguous characters, not a lush of all-white hat heroes like most are used to. This standout concept has made the project one of the most exciting Marvel projects in recent history to come out.
The Thunderbolts feature a team created by the government, more specifically, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who is not creating a group of Earth’s mightiest heroes; instead, she assembles a team of people who are sometimes on the side of heroism and other times on the side of villainy. The Thunderbolts story should feature action, emotional struggles, and plenty of twists, which is what makes it different from the typical Marvel group movie.
A lot of fans feel this movie has a similar vibe to DC’s Suicide Squad, but with Marvel’s spin—entwined in the Macabre MCU again and radiant with awe-inspiring sights and sounds.
Marvel has announced a great combination of characters for Thunderbolts. Some of whom we’ve seen in earlier MCU offerings.
This is not your typical Marvel team up. This team offers a whole new group of personalities and conflicts that are refreshing for fans.
Fans are excited about Thunderbolts for a variety of reasons:
While this offers DIsney+ subscribers to potentially binge watch it repeatedly, it offers exciting cinema experience for the fans!
Thunderbolts is set to be an exploration of themes like redemption, loyalty, and what it means to be a hero. The movie is more about how the members of this team will disagree with one another and how those disagreements affect their journey together in the film. Meaning, there will be lots of action, lots of emotion, and they will be sticking to a more serious grounded tone in line with other Marvel stories instead of being comical and jovial like in others.
Marvel has done well in building interconnected stories, so you’re welcome to expect Thunderbolts to lead into more future features and extensions for the MCU’s Phase 5 and beyond.
With all of this said, it looks like Marvel’s Thunderbolts is shaping up to be the most exciting film from the studio to come up in the next years slate of films. With its unique blend of antiheroes, complicated story webs, and explosive action, the film offers something new and thrilling for both dedicated fans of Marvel and more casual fans of his storytelling.
If you appreciate storytelling that chases after the “grey” parts of being a hero (like I do), Thunderbolts is going to be a film you’ll want to track down. If you decide to see it in theaters or are willing to wait for a Disney+ premiere, this Marvel exploration in and amongst other more publicized features stands to make a more dominating argument or observation about the MCU timeline.
